This week it is all about finding those thrift store gems and transforming them into something perfect for your home.
I am your CSI Girl, Dee
….and I am sharing one of my thrift store transformations.
One day, I came across this beauty at the thrift store.
The shape of the wood frame caught my eye. I am planning a living room makeover as well using turquoise and orange as accents.
So, the color of the frame also caught my eye.
The price was marked down to $5. I had to have to it.
After it sat in my garage for a while, I finally brought it into my house.
I pulled off the adobe buildings. They came off easily.
I may live in Arizona but I see enough cactus when I walk outside. I don’t need them in my house too.
I started off my painting it all white.
I decided to give this southwest frame a modern look.
Clean lines scream modern. I used painters tape and taped off lines.
Then, I painted using the orange accent color.
I love customizing art for my home. You can’t go to the store and find pieces with funny sayings that your family makes, or pet names that you may call each other. You have to create those things but that is the fun part.
With this piece, I did just that. Mr. CSI makes up songs about all of us or sings songs just for us.
For me, he likes to sing, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…..”
But another favorite starts out, “You are…” and ends with “To me…”
Every time he gets to the “To me” part, we laugh. If you heard it, you would too.
He tries to make us laugh so we aren’t laughing at him. We are laughing with him.
Because that is a special thing he does for our family, I added words to this piece.
Here is picture proof that Mr. CSI sings to us and even dances.
Father’s Day this year, holding his pinata while dancing and singing with his singing card.
I think it is fun to have decor that maybe only your family understands. Then, if anyone asks you what it means, you have a great story to tell.
A real conversation starter.
Our houses should tell stories about the people that live there and this piece of art tells the story of how Mr. CSI, in his own unique way shows love for his family. Even if it is by singing us a silly song, but he is a silly dad and my silly husband.
You can create one of a kind art for your home that has meaning for your family. Search the thrift store for great frames or canvases.
You never know what you will find!!!
I can’t wait to see what you have transformed from the thrift store.
Come link up starting tomorrow!
