Hello I am Beckie and I am addicted to free stuff.
I can’t wait to introduce you to this coming week’s challenge.
Roadkill Rescue!
It is a term I have coined on my blog, Infarrantly Creative, when you rescue something from the trash. It could be found curbside, given to you by a friend, or left to you when Aunt Nelly passed. The point is that it was FREEEEEEEEEEE to you!
I have over 22 Roadkill Rescue posts on my blog (click here). But here are my two favorites.
Rescued Rockin 80’s Parquet Hutch
Rescued Hutch Turned Puppet Theater
Speaking of hutches. What is up with people throwing away hutches by the droves??? I have yet another hutch revamp. My friend Carrie gave me this rescue…
It was an Ethan Allen hutch that no longer fit in with her decor. What I love most about Roadkill Rescues is that when I get something for free it allows me to think outside the box. Since there was no cost to me there are no worries about trying new things.
Well my inspiration was a $119 Catalina Book Rack from Pottery Barn Kids.
I started by unscrewing the little feet it had on the bottom…
I then flipped it the whole hutch upside down and cut a board for the top to act as a shelf.
To cover up the rough edge I cut some molding to fit and filled the holes with wood filler.

I measured three descending holes and using a 1/2” drill bit and my electric drill I made three holes making sure to not drill through the other side.
I cut 1/2” dowel rods to size and bent them a little to fit them into the holes I drilled. I added books to make sure they all fit…so far, so good!

A little primer, a little paint and she was ready to be hung in my baby girl’s room.
So take a step outside the box and think big.
We can’t wait to see what you have for us next week. Meanwhile, Miss Mustard Seed is looking through all of the Furniture Makeovers and we will announce the winners tomorrow.
