Next week’s challenge is called “My Painted Halloween.” We want to see Halloween projects that feature PAINT…the most versatile, easy to use and colorful medium there is! I will give you a few hints about next week’s guest judge.
1. They have judged one other prior challenge.
2. They love spray paint. Hmmmm!
We will announce our guest judge and giveaway on Monday. Meanwhile I am going to show you how to make a spray painted Halloween door sign. My four year old boy is batty for Halloween. He has spent the last month laboring over his Halloween costume. He loves spooky, creepy, and scary things right now. In helping him enjoy the spirit of Halloween I made him a sign for his bedroom door.
Using a table saw I cut some random wood I had in my garage down to a 10″ x 6” piece.
The edges seemed a bit sharp so I sanded them down a with 100 grit sandpaper and my electric sander. Then I wiped all the dust off.
After that I spray primed and painted it. I had gotten a box of spray paint at a yard sale for $2. I think there was like 20 cans in it. SCORE! So there was this funky green color that I used.
Then I used my Silhouette machine to design the vinyl for the sign. I decided “Isaac’s Creepy Cave” was perfect.
I cut out the black vinyl first and applied it.
Then I used yellow vinyl for the font. I downloaded my font from dafont.com. It is called Magic School One.
Then I screwed small screws in place and wrapped some wire around it as a hangar. I also sprayed the screws green so they wouldn’t stand out.
I put a 3m Command Hook up in place and hung the wire from that.
I grabbed some furniture pad protectors that I had leftover from when I put some on my kitchen table to protect my new floors so it wouldn’t bang against the door.
Isaac loves it and now his room is officially a “creepy cave.” He told me last night, “Goodnight mom I am going to my creepy cave now.”
So get those last minute projects done and ready to link up on Tuesday.
We will announce the winners of the Ballard Design Inspired challenge tomorrow.
