Hi everyone! I’m Jessie and I blog over at Imperfectly Polished. I’m thrilled to be back at the CSI project today sharing some Thanksgiving ideas with you all. Since we just made over our dining room, I decided to use that backdrop to create a super simple table scape and wall art for the holiday.
Let’s start with the table scape. This will cost next to nothing to recreate. I bought 6 vinyl place mats from WalMart for 94 cents a piece
And painted them with some leftover chalkboard paint I had laying around the house.
I would suggest lightly sanding each place mat to give the paint something to stick to.
I love the idea of having a fun surface at a dining table to write little notes to your guests, use as place cards, or leave chalk out for them to doodle during dinner.
For the place cards, I took some pumpkins I had sitting around the house from Halloween and cut out the stems.
Then I hollowed out the middle
And pulled some mums from our front yard and stuck them inside. I also stuck a fake leaf from the Dollar Store {leftover from my monogram frame} and stenciled the initial of my guests on each leaf with a glue dot.
Super simple and free! I did the same thing with a large pumpkin for the centerpiece {minus the monogram leaf}.
If you aren’t into bright colors on your table {which I admit, I’m more of a neutral person myself}, you could easily paint your pumpkins or wrap them in some fabric that better suits your style. The last little addition I gave to the dining room is the burlap banner on the barn door. I grabbed some scrap burlap I had laying around the house and cut them into squares. These don’t have to be the same size. I just sort of eye-balled mine and love the slight variation on each letter.
Then I took some black fabric paint and a craft brush and stenciled the letters on.
I spent $4 on stencils from Joann’s but you could make some using freezer paper as well.
Then I simply strung them from some yarn that I taped to the top of the barn door. I used masking tape to adhere the letters to the yarn.
This entire project only cost me $10 {$6 for the placemats and $4 for the stencils} so don’t feel like you have to go out and spend a ton of money to create an inviting space for the holidays.
I hope you enjoyed my simple Thanksgiving ideas! I’d love for you to stop by Imperfectly Polished to see more! Happy Thanksgiving:)
~ Thanks, Jessie. Such great ideas and inspiration.
I also have to say that your barn door on the wall is
FABULOUS!!!
Thanks for spending the day with us here at The CSI Project!
Go by and say hi to Jessie today and everyday after that!
