Ombre name sign {My Decoupaged Life}

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be here on The CSI Project. My name’s Brittany and I blog over at My Decoupaged Life. I’m a stay at home mom with two beautiful little girls (one was just born 3 weeks ago!) and I love blogging about all things creative.

So I’m slowly working on my nursery. I probably should have had it done before she was born, but between the holidays and her coming two weeks earlier than expected, things have been a little crazy. When I was given the Ombre challenge, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. My older daughter has like three different signs with her name on it, but our poor little Adalynn doesn’t have any. So I’m here to share how I made this adorable sign:

Supplies Needed:

  • Letters (the ones I used came in a 2 pack and are about 4” high)
  • 1×6
  • Paint (3 shades of one color for letters and another color for background)
  • Sponge brush
  • Glue
  • Spray glitter
  • Sealant
  • Masking or painters tape

Step 1: Mark each letter into thirds. Tape off the letter so just the bottom is showing. make sure to line up the letters so they match when set next to each other. It would look a little awkward if the ombre didn’t match up…

Step 2: Paint the bottom third in your lightest shade. Make sure to put a couple coats. Let dry.

Step 3: Take the tape off and and retape the middle section. paint with your middle shade. Make sure you test your colors beforehand that they are the shades you want. You don’t want to be like me and have to repaint a whole bunch because you hate the lightest color and have to mix the dark and light paint for a middle color. Trust me.. its very time consuming. Anyway, back to the paint. Let the middle section dry and repeat with the top third. Let dry.

Step 4: Cut your 1×6 to size and paint with your background color. Let dry.

Step 5: Glue your letters in place on the 1×6. I used hot glue because that’s what I had on hand, but I’m sure some E6000 would be even sturdier.

Step 6: Spray with glitter and then follow with sealant. Let dry.

Step 7: Attach some picture hangers on the back and place where you want it!

I have to say I’m absolutely loving the ombre! My husband thinks it looks very retro. Thanks so much for having me CSI gals!

~ Wow, you can do so much with Ombre technique. Thanks for sharing your day with us.
