Knitted Pillow{Dukes and Duchesses}

I’m Randi from Dukes and Duchesses and, as always, I’m so happy to be posting at The CSI Project.  The CSI Project is such a great resource for ideas, isn’t it?
This week I’m sharing a recent pillow project with you.  I’m a knitter and I love to incorporate knit items into my decor.  It’s such a great way to bring color and texture to a room.  I recently knit a little lampshade cover to brighten up my family room and the pillow project I’m sharing today is just another way I’m adding some spring color to our home.
This project is obviously designed for knitters but could easily be converted to a crocheted project.  If knitting and crocheting aren’t for you, try taking an old sweater and converting it to a pillow cover.  You can easily get this same look in a variety of ways.
To make this pillow cover, I started with a bulky yarn, the appropriate size needles {listed on the label of the yarn}, and a pillow form.  I cast on enough stitches to cover the width of my pillow and then knit a long rectangle, continuing until the piece was long enough to wrap around my pillow with some overlap.  I used two skeins of yarn for this project.

When my project was long enough, I cast off, then folded one end up and stitched it in place, using an invisible stitch.  I did the same to the other side.  I put my pillow form in place then folded down the top, slightly overlapping the bottom, and stitched those sides in place.

I used a running stitch to hold the flap in place …

… then added some bright, porcelain buttons to bring in a bit more color and texture.

A knit pillow cover is a great way to add some color to a room and one of my favorite fast and easy knitting projects.

Thanks for the chance to share here today.  I’d love for you to stop by Dukes and Duchesses and say hello, or follow along on my other social media outlets.
