Choosing the Right Blinds for your Kitchen

The best roller blinds for kitchens need to be practical, but also capable of providing a stylish look for a different range of rooms. Kitchens should primarily offer a lot of natural light, while offering the opportunity to control an atmosphere during the evening. Roller blinds can help to achieve this goal by being scaled back completely to let in light, or covered to set a comfortable tone in the evenings. At the same time, they should be designed with light themes in mind, and should be easy to use as part of a safe kitchen.

1 – Designs and Fabrics

Roller blinds for kitchens need to use fabrics that can stand up to moisture and splash backs from cooking. Lighter fabrics are particularly recommended, as are ones that use treatments to resist water. Synthetic fabrics and Teflon finishing works well for this purpose, and can be wiped clean on a regular basis. Perhaps the most important issue to focus on when choosing roller blinds for the kitchen is therefore to find something light and easy to maintain, with the expectation that investing more at purchase will save money replacing damaged fabrics in the long term.

2 – Theme Ideas and Designs

Bright colours are a good idea for a kitchen that relies on natural light. Strong, bold colours and blues and greens can be used to set off metallic finishes, and can be matched up to tile colour schemes. Roller blinds that use simple geometric patterns are recommended over more complex designs. Functionality should be the most important factor in a kitchen. Trends that are popular at the moment include minimalistic Scandinavian designs that encourage understated patterns and decorations. This kind of look can be easily achieved with a choice of simple colours and fabric swatches, with options for blinds to be rolled out of sight to make the most of lighting a de-cluttered kitchen.

3 – Bold and Accent Colours

Another option for roller blinds in the kitchen is to experiment with more striking colours. Brighter reds, oranges and blues, as well as themed patterns and complex designs can be used to complement metallic fittings, and can help to breathe colour into kitchens. Brightly coloured designs are particularly recommended for covering kitchens doors to offset light within the main part of a kitchen. One of the main advantages of roller blinds is that simple changes in colour or pattern can make a significant difference to the overall look of a room. When used correctly, the right roller blind can draw attention and alter the atmosphere of a space.

4 – Safety and Kitchen Blinds

Any roller blinds for the kitchen should be fitted and maintained with the aim in mind of keeping them as safe as possible for young children. Roller blinds are particularly dangerous if they have cords that can be grasped by young children. This can happen if a kitchen features fittings that can be easily climbed, and it is recommended that a wand or remote control is used instead of a cord. Blinds should also be regularly wiped down to prevent a build-up of mildew.
