Hi all! My name is Jenn and I blog over at Momma D and Da Boyz. I am excited to be here at the CSI Project and participating in the hardware store challenge this week!
I was thinking about what I wanted to do for this challenge, and I started thinking about some of the cool industrial inspired candlestick holders made with plumbing pieces. I have seen them everywhere, from magazines to the Nate Berkus Show, and I decided to try and make them myself!
I headed to my local hardware store and sat down in the plumbing aisle and started playing with the different plumbing pieces. Primarily you are looking for pieces called bushings. I ended up picking up bushings ranging in sizes of 1/2″ & 3/4″ to 1 1/4″ & 1 1/2″.
I purchased the following for two candlesticks:
(2) 1/2″ & 3/4″ Steel Bushings
(2) 3/4″ & 1″ Steel Bushings
(2) 1/ & 1 1/4″ Steel Bushings
(2) 1 1/4″ & 1 1/2″ Steel Bushings
(1) 1 1/2″ Coupling
The single larger piece was to give one of the candlesticks more height and a slightly different look. The smaller candlestick cost about $11 to make, and the larger about $15.
This has to be the easiest project to make. Literally open the bags that the pieces come in and then screw them together, smallest to largest.
That’s it! Candesticks with a hip industrial look. I chose to leave mine in the steel finish they came in, but these would also look great sprayed black or oil rubbed bronze.
Just add a pair of plain white tapers from the dollar store and you are all set!
Thank you for having me here at the CSI Project. I can’t wait to see what you have come up with this week for the hardware store challenge!
