CSI Chic Chronicles{College Prep for parents}

Washi Tape week is over but not the fun!

This week’s CSI Chic is all about college prep but not for your kids…..for you parents!

The oldest CSI kid is in his Freshman year and we have learned quite a few things.

The first step is accepting that they are graduated and college bound.

Ours graduated on a very windy May night and before we knew it, he was moving in the dorm. Then, its started. Your wallet is open in ways you never thought possible. You get text messages like this, “Dad, I need to pay for this and that.”

If  you are me, you send some like this, “I am going to the store. What do you need? Are you eating breakfast?”

If you are lucky, you get texts that say, “Thank you!”, “I love you.” And my favorite, ” I have never had to study this hard in my life.”

Welcome to college, sweetheart!

We have paid for the food, the living expenses and even the books. You think that sounds like a lot and he even got a scholarship! Yikes!!!

Well, my advice to any college aged parents or some who may be in the planning stages of it, is utilize this website, Campus Book Rentals.

There are so many perks to renting the textbooks and some are:

-save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
-free shipping both ways
-can highlight in the textbooks
-flexible renting periods
-They donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented

I can tell you that saving 40% to 90% on books is a HUGE deal! That means you can spend more on other things like parking on campus. I don’t even want to tell you how much that costs. I don’t want to scare you. It is not even Halloween yet!

This website is also easy to use. You can type in book by class, subject and ISBN number. Then, you are directed to that book or subject. Easy! I typed in Calculus so you can follow this link and see for yourself how easy it is.

I took one look at the price of this book and was amazed! So much better than the  $110 we paid.

Not only is this a great resource for books but a portion from every rental goes to a very good humanitarian organization called Operation Smile.

Operation Smile

“For EVERY book rented this year, we will donate a portion of the proceeds to Operation Smile with our sights set on meeting and exceeding our goal of 1,000 lives changed. So add that extra book to your cart, and consider this goal as you go back to school this year. CampusBookRentals.com supports the children of Operation Smile, and we thank you for your support.” – Campus Book Rentals

So, I do not have a wealth of advice for you parents who are embarking on the college journey but I can tell you to rent books and save money! Look for ways to save money and sending treats to your college kid from time to time, doesn’t hurt. Pray continuously, love all the time and ask if they need groceries sometimes!

They grow up fast and as Mr. CSI found out……they even become taller than you one day and wrestling in the living room becomes a hazard for Dad’s health.

Have a great weekend, my crafty friends! Make it fun, make it relaxing and make it crafty!
