We hear about washi tape everywhere! We see it all over Pinterest and craft blogs but have you ever wondered where washi tape came from and who came up with using it for craft projects? I mean we always need more craft supplies, right???
Where did washi tape come from?
Washi tape comes to us from Japan. When it hit the USA, the craft world exploded with excitement. With all of it’s adorable colors and patterns, who couldn’ t resist this new trend. Thanks to the Japanese, we now have Pinterest boards dedicated to it. We have Etsy shops creating cute projects with it and even here at The CSI Project, we have a whole challenge based on it. What is washi tape exactly?
You have just purchased your own roll of washi tape and you hold it in your hand. The thought crosses your mind, Why is this stuff so delicate? Washi Tape is like masking tape but very light and delicate. Don’t let this intimidate you! Think of it as masking tape with so many cute designs. See, isn’t that better!
Washi Tape is made of natural fibers such as bamboo or hemp. It is also made from bark of trees that are native to Japan. Another reason to love nature!!!
Where can I get Washi Tape?
My favorite place to get washi tape is Downtown Tape. The reason is they have cute styles at a low price. Gotta love $1.99 a roll.
Etsy is also a great resource for you. You can even buy them in packs on there. So, this gives you a wide variety.
Another online resource is Cute Tape. You can also go to your local craft store and grab some. I saw some cute tape at Michaels.
What can I make with washi tape?
Now, this is the fun part! There is so much you can create with this magical, wonderful tape.
Need new coasters or want to make some for a friend? Buy some plain white tiles from Home Depot and dress them up with washi tape!

My biggest piece of advice is GET some washi tape right away and start creating!
