Awww……….the simple life.
Vida Sencilla
There are books written on how to live the simple life.
People desire that life yet the hustle and bustle of everyday robs us of it.
We are like the hamster on the wheel and we can’t seem to unplug, disconnect from the world and all of the ways it is pulling us in.
We long for vacations to in a sense, take us away from it all.
When you are planning a vacation a lot goes into it.
From hotel arrangements , to flights and packing by the time you do all of that, you are tired just thinking about it all.
There is anticipation built up but so often what happens is you get to your destination and your agenda takes over.
You plan everything from sun up to sun down. Every hour, every mile walked or driven. It’s all planned.
A friend of mine commented on my 30 day vacation to Hawaii and it made me pause to think.
She said, “It would truly be a vacation to have so much time to experience everything you want and still have to time to take it all in. You are taking an awesome vacation.”
She is right. The “taking it all in” part really stuck with me.
So, with each passing hour and activity we are doing, I stop and ask myself, “Am I really taking this all in?”
Because the truth is, the kids will not be this age forever. Our lives will change as they grow up and move away possibly.
The truth is my husband and I will also change as time goes on and I want to remember who we were on this day.
Today, as we hiked in the beautiful Hawaiin rainforest, I stopped to look around me.
I took it all in.
I was drawn to even the smallest of things. Like rain drops on these lily pads.
I watched the kids laugh and say, “wow” as they took in this amazing experience.
Rain drops fell on our skin and yet we kept moving. I think everyone should feel the rain on their skin and never even think of running out of it. Just feel the rain fall………
I walked next to my husband and there were moments we both just watched the kids that we adore. Then, we would make eye contact and smile.
In those moments, life made sense. Our family just makes sense.
We anticipated our destination.
We hiked to a waterfall.
Before we got there, I could hear the waterfall and knew we were close. The rushing of water was louder with every step.
Life is a lot like hiking to this waterfall.
We anticipate the big, exciting things like milestones, anniversaries, vacations and success.
As we get closer to them, we can literally imagine what the experience will be like when we reach those events.
Life events, however much anticipated, can easily go unnoticed because we didn’t take the time to “take it all in” when they finally happened.
