Halloween should be fun!
I love to see all of the kids dressed up as their favorite characters or heroes.

So, when a local firefighter gave me his old suspenders because he knows that I love to create new uses for old things, I was thrilled!

I came up with an idea to create a tote and the best part is, his young son can always have a part of his “hero” firefighter dad. With Halloween coming up, I knew that this tote could be a great candy tote for the big event.
Helmet- Check
Jacket- Check
Candy bag- Check
Cute little fireman- Oh yeah!

I had to cut the suspenders a bit because they had other parts that just didn’t work. The main part, however, is the straps.
I bought 2 yards of coordinating fabric.

That is 1 yard each. I chose one that is just flames and the other was a firefighter one. The colors matched perfectly.
This is easy to sew. I like this tutorial from Dana Made It because she shows you how to add straps and a pocket too. I kept my bag simple and just lined up my material. Sewed 2 sides and added the straps.

This bag works great for a Halloween costume but I was honored to also create something that can be passed down in this multi-generation family.
Grandpa, dad and one day maybe even his son will serve the community.
I love creating things that have meaning for years to come and I know this tote will.
But for now, I can’t wait to see a cute young fireman at my door so I can fill this bag up with candy on Halloween!
